SYNOPSIS
When teenage Jakob and his younger brother Sam escape their parents’ increasingly destructive arguments by retreating into a fantasy world of their own, they are forced to confront both their personal conflicts and the emotional storm threatening to tear their family apart. Lost in an endless forest, where a real storm mirrors their reality, they learn the importance of brotherhood, empathy, courage and how to stay together even when everything around them is falling apart.
THE DIRECTOR
Douglas Lewin is a 25-year-old director from Eskilstuna, Sweden. His artistic drive stems from a deep love of storytelling and a need to share his perspective. Over the past five years, his relationship with film could best be described as something of an obsession. For Douglas, film became the perfect medium to tell his stories and make his voice heard.
So far, Douglas has directed two short films during his time at the Stockholm Film School, from which he graduated in 2023. Bröderna Vilja marks his debut film outside of an academic setting—his first steps as an independent filmmaker.
DIRECTOR'S VISION
Bröderna Vilja is a story meant to explore the inseparable bond of being siblings, especially what it means to be siblings in difficult times. As a director, I want to explore the concept of brotherhood.
Sibling relationships have a unique ability to hold opposing emotions at once, in ways that might seem paradoxical in any other context. How can you love and hate someone at the same time? How can you care deeply and yet feel indifferent in the same breath? Within sibling dynamics, this is not only possible, it’s often the norm. But why is that?
With this film, I want to create a space where that paradox can unfold freely. What does it look like in wide open landscapes? In the tight confines of a small tent? What truly matters when all you have is each other?
THE PRODUCER
David Martinez is a Swedish producer and cinematographer based in Stockholm. He graduated from Stockholm Film School in 2023. Prior to his academic studies, he worked on various television productions, including Swedish Idol and other entertainment shows.
Primarily working as a cinematographer, David has collaborated with a range of brands and artists through the ON NOX companies.
This short drama marks his debut as a producer on a major narrative project, where he also serves as both editor and cinematographer.
